Caving Writing

WALT: Entertain
Purpose: To tell about an experience from camp, using short sentences to create suspense.

Wednesday April 2nd 2014

The activity I was most looking forward to I had to do it last. Plus I was really scared so that didn't help at all But I was thinking oh nah it’ll be fine. Going down in the  V6 (sweet). I was really nervous. Talking to Jason made me feel better. But I was wondering what would happen. Most of my friends came back all muddy with cuts and bruises. I was just hoping my shoes did not get ripped.

It will be a ok . Then I get out thinking it can’t be that bad it’s in the middle of nowhere. We walk down the slippery muddy path. James is talking about all these land  markers to tell us were to go. Then we see these little baby red and white mushrooms. If touch them we aren't allowed any lunch. Because they are poisonous.

But the suspense is making me hungry any way. When are we going to get their?  Yay Where here. Oh know I thought that it would not be so steep or rocky. Now we are going into the cave it is really scary. I’m thinking gees I hope a weta doesn't drop on me. We are half way in the cave now. I have to do mini moo then we come to the end. Now I see a little tiny gap. We have a choice to go under the tiny gap or turn back. I chose to go under thinking I hope I don’t get stuck. I go under get on my arms and knees and push threw. I feel a crawfish go over my pinking. Now my knees are really hurtingg because I have heaps of bruises finally I'm out then we are allowed to go back but just say “no thanks”.

Air Rifle & Statistics

I think my groups score was was really high but the two 0's dragged us down. If I had more time I would of maybe presented it a bit more creativity.

Me

Range:   low 36 High 46

Mean: 36+46=82                  82÷2=40

Team

Data:12,29,39,17,32,22,7,23,17,0,0,36,46

Mean: 12,+29,+39,+17,+32,+22+,7+,23+,17,0,0=198 10÷198= just under 20
Median:   o o 7 12 17 22 23 29 32 36 46
Range: 0----- 46

NO range

Statistics
WALT calculate the mean, median, mode and range for a set of data.
TASK Elly and Troy want to find out once and for all:
  • which Activity Group has the overall best score, (mean)
  • which Activity Group has the highest middle number, (median)
  • what score was the most common, (mode)
  • which activity group has the highest range. (range)

In everyday life people collect data to look for trends and make decisions. In order to analyse the information, we need to understand the different ways to lOOK at the data.

Success Criteria you will know you are successful when:
  • calculate the mean by adding up all the data (9 + 4 + 4 + 5 + 8 = 30) then divide the total by how many numbers there were (9, 4, 4, 5, 8 = 5 numbers so 30 ÷ 5 = 6).
  • calculate the median by ordering all numbers from smallest to biggest then selecting the middle number (4, 4, 5, 8, 9 = 5 is the middle number). If there are 6 numbers e.g. 4, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, then the median is halfway = 5.5.
  • calculate the mode by identifying which number occurs most often (4, 4, 5, 8, 9 = 4 because there are two of them). You can have more than one mode.
calculate the range by finding the difference between the highest and lowest numbers (9 - 4 = 5).

Camp Goals

W.A.L.T set S.M.A.R.T goals.

My goal is to overcome my fear of heights.
I have chosen this goal because I have to overcome this fear so I can go on more hikes.
I'll know when I have achieved this when I look down and don't get dizzy
I can help myself achieve this by looking up at the prize.

_________________________________________________________________________________

My goal is to get used to the new environment  and make new friends.
I have chosen this goal because I want to have some more friends.
I can help myself to achieve  this by interacting more with other people.

Success Criteria:
Set 2 goals that are sensible, measurable, achievable, relevant and timely goals
Reflect on goals after camp

I think That I set some pretty reasonable goals not to hard and not to easy but next time I would ,
set some harder goals to push my self.

Focus - Persuasive writing
Purpose (Why are we writing)- to persuade people to read my book.

Success Criteria:
Persuasive phrase - Words
Good images from the book
Not too long - 1 - 2 1/2 minutes
The music fits the mood of the book - Catchy
Use the main and most interesting parts
Persuasive question? - Will the poison work?
Make sure we don't use the imovie ready made trailers
We need a plan
We need a storyboard
